    Anti-thinspo!

… asking about their stance on “promoting bad health”. I’m done arguing with confused kids on the road to killing themselves, so this is my last action on the matter, hoping to see tumblr make some positive steps towards checking up on what they allow on their site.

    Subject: “Dangerous…

Guys, I want you to know the difference between a “thinspo” and someone like me.

A thinspo is a person on Tumblr who is underweight in a very unhealthy way and is promoting unhealthy habits on their blog in order to “do anything to get thin”. Because it is inevitable some good people who are feeling pressured by their weight will want to go for this. It is dangerous. It saddens me that people follow these types of blogs solely because they just don’t know enough about health and rely on these ridiculously skinny people to teach them their magic ways.

Now I may be called by some people “ridiculously skinny”, but truly I am not even close to these thinspos. What I do on my blog is relay and review articles and other content from reputable sources in a format that will be useful to you. I do some of my own stuff as well, however, it is in the nature of promoting awareness of nutrients and what you can learn from your own body.

Besides, even if I am somewhat underweight that doesn’t mean much, really. My average weight hasn’t changed much, but it has gradually increased since my sickness a few years ago, so I’m not unhealthy. I like eating, I don’t discourage it at all. All I do is try and help people understand what they’re eating and how to eat healthy alternatives instead of the junk that just tastes good. Even so, my blog isn’t just about healthy eating, it’s about healthy living! But I would say that one key difference between me and a thinspo is that I’m not trying to lose weight, I’m trying to maintain and even gain some muscle.

Size really has nothing to do with being healthy. It means nothing. Okay, maybe it means something, but you can’t judge a person’s health by their size. Someone could weigh 220 lbs but just be a body builder. That number doesn’t mean they’re obese. Someone like me could be 111 lbs and just have a high metabolism. Doesn’t mean I’m anorexic or bulimic. Which, I think is sad personally, because I get called that sometimes when first off, I look NOTHING like girls that have eating disorders and second, those people are so insensitive to even say that as an insult. Many people who have eating disorders have a strong emotional connection to their condition. It’s not a joke, folks. It hurts people.

However, one thing these thinspos don’t deserve is sympathy. Sure, it’s sad they have an eating disorder but it’s also not okay for them to promote eating disorders and unhealthy ways to make oneself thin at any cost!

I truly support this cause. I just want to be clear to you people that are skeptical about me that I’m not in the same category as them.

    Thanks.

    ♥ Melissa
