Nutrition News - Ban on Junk Food Ads in Canada

    missnutrition:

Quebec, Canada banned fast food ads, and now research provides the shocking statistics of its effects.

Using french-speaking households in Canada, here are some numbers:

    - reduce fast food purchases each week by 13%

    - 11-22 million fewer fast food meals eaten per year

    - 2.2-4.4 billion less calories consumed by children

So, researchers are wondering ~ would we, in the U.S. see similar results if states were to ban fast food advertising?

Apparently, the results of such a ban would depend on how many states participated in the banning of the greasy ads. However, if the U.S. as a whole banned fast food ads, research indicates that this would be successful.

Research is not certain, and does vary, but this article brings up interesting things to ponder.

this is kind of weird but i exercise and i eat a pretty healthy diet and i make sure i eat lots of fruits, veggies, whole grains and a lot of fiber in my diet. but i dont poop alot.. like every 4 days. which i know isnt good, and i cant figure out a way to fix it. ive tried upping my fiber intake and drink alot of water. any suggestions?

Hmm. I’m pretty stumped with that, but you should definitely see your doctor. The only thing I can think of is constipation, but you say you get a lot of fiber so… See your doctor. :/

Hi i am super fit and healthy, just llike you, im obsessive i lovveeeee being healthy and i lovveeee exercising. i exercise 6days a week for about 2-3hrs each day. I eat like a rabbit too haha. my diet is a high protein low carb diet. i eat ALOT of fruit. in your opinion is there such thing as TOO much fruit in ones diet. this is probably how much fruit i eat in a day: 4 strawberries in the morning, 2 apples for snacks, a banana before my workout and blueberries after dinner. am i overdoing it?

Nice! :) I don’t think you’re overdoing it, but just keep it in the back of your mind that too much of anything can be bad.

I have slight concern over the idea of being “low carb” mostly because it is misleading. While people do lose weight from cutting carbs, it’s water weight, not fat that’s disappearing. (Which is easily gained back… Also part of why fad diets don’t seem to work.) If you’re eating a lot of fruit, then you’re getting plenty of carbs, but a healthy diet is also balanced, so don’t completely avoid breads, grains, etc.

As another tidbit, you can damage your liver from eating too much protein, but I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re starting to feel sick from it.

Perhaps I’m misunderstanding this but… Fruit contains fiber, which is NOT digested quickly. And why would anyone want their breakfast to be digested so quickly, anyways? Do people WANT to be hungry?!?

I mean, if someone wants to explain this to me, please do.

Very interesting research regarding diet soda and your health

Individuals who reported drinking at least two diet sodas per day experienced waist-size increases that were six times greater than those who didn’t drink diet sodas. The fact that they gained weight around the middle is significant because abdominal fat has been associated with increased risk for heart disease, diabetes and other chronic conditions.

Daily Inspiration #8: Listen to your body.

Sorry I haven’t posted any of these in awhile! Today I wanna talk about, you guessed it, listening to your body. This goes beyond just eating when you’re hungry.

All of us are under stress. We all feel it, it sucks, and we all want relief. But the amazing thing about the human body is that it can heal itself. Just we don’t know how to. In fact, I don’t really know how to either, but I do know some things that seem to help.

So as I said, eat when you’re hungry. People get so worried about diet and ask me if it’s better to eat three meals or several small ones… And I tell them, listen to your body. Sure, there’s all this hype about how eating more revs up your metabolism more… But what if you’re not even hungry? Are you gonna eat anyways? If it’s meal time and you’re not hungry… Wait. Don’t eat. Your body is satisfied. You eat to be satisfied, not full or stuffed. Personally for me, if I’m satisfied and even see food I get a little tinge of nausea. I’m not sure how some people do it, but unless you’re sick and have not been eating, never force yourself to eat. Your body will tell you when it needs nourishment.

When you workout, pay attention to your body. Don’t just go through the motions. See how your body moves, how your muscles feel… Get in tune with what you’re doing. If you’re distracted by anything, including music, you will not be able to do this as well. Now, you don’t have to workout in silence all the time, but take the time to do a silent workout every once in awhile. (Especially if you’re outside.) Sometimes people just get so into the music they completely ignore what they’re doing and don’t get as much out of their workouts as they could. For example, if you’re doing a pilates move that require you to really pump your muscles and squeeze to get something out of the motion. If you’re just going through the motion, chances are not much will happen. Even worse, if you’re running and roll your ankle… You may think you’re fine or not even notice it, but when you end your run you might find out you really inured yourself and could’ve been easier on it. Don’t tune yourself out to what you’re doing.

Stop procrastinating so your body can sleep when it needs to sleep. Sleep is sooo so important to good health, yet so many people neglect it. It lets your brain recharge, provides the key fast in losing weight, and gives you energy to say… Workout. I admit, I too neglect sleep sometimes, but it’s important to catch and correct yourself. Without sleep you can’t think and do things as well, so you’re only hurting yourself. Lack of sleep is a huge cause of stress.

When you’re stressed, your body is trying to tell you something… It’s telling you to chill!! So your boyfriend broke up with you. Or you have a huge bill to pay. I know it hurts. It makes you angry, it makes you cry. It’s okay to cry and let your emotions out. Crying is a way the body deals with pain. So cry… And then toughen up! It may seem a little insensitive, but this part is extremely important! Smile and laugh it off… You can still on on living. Think of the positive. When something negative comes, sigh and work it out calmly. Panic solves nothing. Be resilient.

Start listening to your body and see how much better you feel! :)

      Dangerous Celebrity Dieting

People often try to make “quick fixes” for things in today’s society. However, if done so in diet and exercise, you may be hitting your health pretty hard. Need some examples of celebs who have done these things? Well…

      Beyoncé

In order to fit the part in Dream Girls (2006), Beyonce decided to go on the Maple Syrup Diet Cleanse, a diet in which all you eat drink is a disgusting concoction of maple syrup, water, cayenne pepper, lemon… Just to lose 20 lbs. Sure, pure Maple Syrup and the other ingredients may have some health benefits, but they are surely outweighed by the costs.

      Matt Damon

For Courage Under Fire, Matt Damon went on… Well… He pretty much stopped eating in order to lose significant weight to fit his role in the film. But while filming he experienced many hot flashes and dizzy spells… And apparently had to go on medication for several years to recover from the adrenal gland damage his diet caused him.

      Kourtney Kardashian

Kourtney, after becoming a mom, was continuing the exercise routine she started prior to pregnancy… But she stopped eating and ended up in the hospital. Plenty of people try this thinking that they’ll burn fat… But if you read my post from last night, you understand why that doesn’t work.

More to come on dangerous beauty trends!!

Awesome! I love things like this. I wanna start making things like this… It’ll get more people to read my text posts, haha.
