Clear Skin Tips from Dr. Glynis Ablon

    • Makeup: Many women use a lot of base and powder to cover wrinkles, which actually makes them more apparent! Just get a tinted sunscreen with zinc oxide and not only will that cover up wrinkles, it will prevent you from getting more sun-related wrinkles.
    • Pore strips: If your pores look big, use pore strips. It will temporarily make pores smaller and remove blackheads.
    • Cinnamon oil: It’s a natural lip plumper! It’s typically in lip plumping products anyways, it’s just cheaper.
    • Yogurt: Put it on sunburn! It cools and calms the skin, and the milk proteins act as an anti-inflammatory to reduce the redness.
    • Aquaphor ointment: Works better and faster than most topical antibiotics to heal wounds!
    • Soy milk: Soy has protein that has anti-inflammatory properties. Have puffy eyes? Put some soy milk on a compress over your lower lids for about 10 minutes and puffiness will be reduced!
    • Super glue: Have cracked heels? Use super glue! Put just a drop on it to seal it, and the wound will heal faster and put you at a lower risk of infection.
    • Whipped cream: Whipped creams that contain sorbital (which is in many moisturizers) can be used in a pinch as a moisturizer. Apply a thin layer to the affected area. It can also be used as a conditioner for hair!

    Beauty Tips from Selena Gomez

Hi, a lot of you have been asking me for this beauty post, so I apologize that it’s so late. But I hope to answer your questions now!

Daily Facial Routine: To have fresh clean skin, that feels and looks as smooth as you see on TV, it’s quite simple. Wash your face every night and every morning. When you first wake up, make sure you instantly wash your face. Do not use a washcloth, or any kind of material on your face. Use cold water only on your face, and use your hands to wash your face. Most facial scrubs scrubs say they’ll do this and that for your face — but don’t believe it. The face scrub I use in the morning is Cetaphil Antibacterial Gentle Cleansing Bar.  It’s not very expensive at all, in fact at Rite Aid it’s only $4.79 or around $5. This cleaning bar, is great for dry and sensitive skin, and isn’t full of the toxic things most cleansers actually have in it. It’s great for your face, arms, body, and legs. Depending where acne occurs. After washing it dry, do not pat it on a towel. Get a fresh paper towel and wash dry your face off. Then apply a moisturizer. Beware of what kind you use, most will actually clog pores. So be sure to read the back and pick out one that says, “Will not clog pores.” The moisturizer that I use is Neutrogena Healthy Skin Face Lotion SPF 15. It’s great because it doesn’t clog pores, and doesn’t dull out your skin. It actually helps uneven skin tones and makes your face look fresher and newer. It’s not so expensive either, and Rite Aid it’s about $16 or $17. Before you go to bed every night, wash the same way and apply moisturizer.

Make-up:  Lancome mascara is one of the best mascaras ever, honestly. It stays on for like forever, and it never runs. Yves Saint Laurent’s make up products are amazing. I like them for their concealers, blushes, and shimmery lip glosses. Bronzer still isn’t my strong point, but Guerlain Terracotta Light Sheer Bronzer, it amazing really. I still have that from like last year. To touch up skin after you finish your make up, Chanel powder is AMAZING. Some great stores for your personal make up, would be Mac and Sephora. Bare Escentuals bareMinerals Multi-Tasking Face is a great concealer from Sephora. I’m not sure of the price, but I always always use it, it’s amazing. Always remove your make up at night, with Neutrogena Make Up Wipes.

Body: As women, taking care of our bodies are especially important. I’m not good with fitness advice, so I’ll keep it simple. Spend atleast an hour a day every day, doing something active. Walking around, dancing while singing (burns more calories if you do both.) To have your body feeling and looking good with smooth radiant skin, follow these steps:

    1. A Hot Shower. Simple right? But nothing feels better. On Sundays, give yourself nice warm bath, and soak in to prepare for the week ahead.

    2. Face mask or scrub, and then a cold mask to de-poof under the eyes if swollen due to shower heat and/or irritation It leaves a cool, refreshing feeling.

    3. Moisturize as much as possible. The heat from the shower will dry you up, and soft smooth skin is very attractive and healthy!!

    4. Removing unwanted hair leaves your skin smoother. It’s better to do it after a hot bath, because your hair follicles are opened up and it makes it for a easier shave, wax, or tweeze.

    5. Lots of water. I know people say that a lot. But drinking 8 ounces a day, really add up. Maybe even start off small. Drink a cold water bottle in the morning, and before you sleep and make it a habit. It’ll make your hair healthier and your skin healthier.

    6. Sleep is great, really. It helps re-new your skin for the next day!!

Hair:  I don’t have that much to say about hair. I’m not very good with hair, honestly. But to be safe with your hair be careful of what you use. I straighten and blow-dry my hair a lot, and that causes a lot of damage and heat towards your hair, so I like to use a protector against that. It’s not expensive at all, and it helps from damaging your hair. When straightening your hair, start from the very base of it(your roots), and straighten down three times. Don’t over do it, or you’ll get a very dull, flat look. Drinking lots of water, helps your hair grow fuller, longer and makes it healthy and shiny!!

Clothing:  As far as this goes, it’s very simple too. Do your own thing. Being creative, spunky, and fun is the key. Mix and match and try new things!! When you find your own style, you’ll love it. :) I like to get a nice shirt and some jeans, with a nice pair of sandals. Boots, will never go wrong with an outfit and is sure to be an eye catcher. Same for scarfs. Some of my favorite clothing stores areTop Shop, Urban Outfitters, Forever 21, BCBG,  and for summer nessecities Victoria’s Secret.

I hope this has helped y’all in any way possible!! :) Good luck with your own style, I’m sure it’ll be beautiful.

Blurry, but my sock bun did work today! :) Just takes practice!

I am so trying this tonight. What I love most about it is that it’s super easy once you get the hang out it, from what people have told me. Also, it’s way cheaper than buying a curling iron and doesn’t fry/damage your hair like a curling iron would. Enjoy!

    Rosemary Hot Oil Hair Treatment

Natural oils are well-known for it’s moisturizing properties whether it be skin or hair. Paired with rosemary, known to enhance the senses and boost memory in aromatherapy, you can make this luxurious hair treatment right out of your own kitchen!

    Ingredients

    • 1 bunch of rosemary leaves (best fresh!)
    • 1/2 cup soybean oil

    Supplies

    • Plastic bag
    • Warm towel
    • Bowls
    • Strainer

    Directions

    1. Prepare the rosemary. Take the rosemary sprigs and remove the leaves. Set the leaves aside and toss out the stems.
    2. Warm the oil and rosemary leaves in a double boiler. Fill a saucepan one quarter full with water and place on medium heat. Place a large bowl on top of the saucepan without letting the water touch the bottom of the bowl.
    3. Strain. Pour out the oil mixture into another bowl through a strainer and separate the leaves.
    4. Apply the oil to your hair. First place a towel on your shoulders to avoid getting the oil on your clothes. With your hands, apply the oil all over your hair thoroughly, working the mixture evenly to the end of the strands. Wrap your hair in plastic wrap around your head or use a plastic bag to cover your hair. Cover with a towel and leave it in for 10-15 minutes.
    5. Wash out thoroughly with shampoo. And when I say thoroughly, I mean thoroughly. If you fail to wash your hair out properly your hair will remain oily. So be sure to wash it out well so your hair has a soft, shiny sheen.

Store excess in a microwaveable container and reheat for another treatment.

THIS MAKES YOUR HAIR SOOO SOFT! I used grapeseed oil instead of soybean oil just because it’s what I had (try to use a light oil, not something like olive oil if you can). I think I may make this a routine thing! Soo great.

Have some mayo in your house?

You don’t have to like eating mayonnaise for it to improve your health! (Because eating a lot of it certainly does the opposite!) Mayo can heal dry, cracked heels, kill head lice, and soften hair! So if you have some in your fridge or pantry and are tempted to throw it out due to what it does in your stomach… Don’t do it just yet! It can come in handy! (Or footy?)

    Anonymous asked:
should i wash my hair with shampoo daily since i sweat a lot of after working out? i heard that washing hair daily is bad. what do you think??

I’ve heard the same thing! I’m not entirely sure how to answer this, but I think that if you don’t sweat much on your head then you may want to wash it every other day instead. I always use conditioner, though. I think it varies for everyone, so I would suggest that you try it out and see what works best for you!

At-Home Health Fixes From Your Pantry!

    Maple Syrup (Grade A)

    • Fends off colds
    • Boosts immune system
    • Rich in zinc and manganese
    • Fights inflammation
    • Keeps white blood cells healthy
    • Prevents cancer with polyphenols

Maple syrup contains a lot of sugar, so don’t go overboard! Having too much maple syrup can actually do worse for your body. So limit it to just a drizzle over some whole-wheat pancakes! A great way to sneak it in with your kids!

    Tea

    • Has many anti-cancer properties
    • A warm teabag placed on the eye can cure sties and pink eye
    • Modulates cell activity that fight infection
    • Chamomile tea on the skin can soothe eczema

Tea is the go-to for sickness! It’s warm, soothing, and promotes a healthy immune system. Just beware of too much! Too much of caffeine in caffeinated teas can make you lethargic and fatigued. Also try to avoid drinking tea close to meal times because it can inhibit the absorption of iron, which helps red blood cells carry oxygen throughout your body.

    Baking Soda

    • Whitens teeth
    • Soothes razor burn and treats acne
    • Reduces the harmful acidity of bacteria

Widely known for its use in freshening up smelly fridges, it does wonders to your skin! Mix some baking soda with water to make a paste and it will help with the above listed problems! However, when it comes to acne, the paste will not work for under-the-skin pimples.

    Vinegar

    • Soothes mild sunburn
    • Reduces inflammation
    • Removes build-up of products when applied to hair
    • A natural disinfectant

Although vinegar is great for soothing sunburn, prevention is key to preventing skin cancer that excessive sunburn can cause! So be sure to apply sunscreen when going outside, but keep in mind that vinegar will help if you do happen to get a burn! To remove product build-up in hair, dilute some vinegar with water in a spray bottle and spray onto hair. Leave in for 3-5 minutes, then wash out. Do this a few times a week for clean, shiny hair!

    Cinnamon

    • Lowers cholesterol
    • Promotes proper insulin function
    • Lowers diabetes risk and can help lower blood sugar levels in diabetics
    • Acts as an antibacterial that can fight bad breath

Cinnamon is a great spice that should be integrated into everyone’s diet, especially for diabetics or those at risk for diabetes! Sprinkle it on your peanut butter sandwich, into your coffee, or bake it into your baked goods! Cinnamon gum is a great alternative and can fight the bacteria that causes bad breath!

    Nutrition to Healthy Hair!

    missnutrition:

Okay, maybe your hair won’t look like that…but there are ways to make sure your hair is getting enough nutrients to shine and have natural beauty!

    Good for your hair:

    - B vitamins.

It seems that B vitamins help pretty much everything, which is kinda true…sort of. Anyways, they boost hair growth, meaning they help your hair grow faster. Hair loss has been linked to not getting enough B vitamins.

    - Protein.

Protein contains amino acids, which are the basic component in hair. So, they ensure that hair can repair itself and grow in a healthy way.

    - E vitamins.

Fights free radicals, which helps hair because free radicals cause aging and damage from the environment. Vitamin E stimulates the scalp and increases blood circulation, which promotes hair growth.

    - Omega-3 fatty acids.

These also seem to pop up everywhere, in terms of aiding in health. Omega-3s help prevent hair loss and may help stimulate hair growth.

    - Fruits and vegetables.

Of course these help, right? They make everything better, it seems! They contain folic acid, which helps in tissue growth and aids the proper functioning of cells. Renewing cells helps contribute to hair growth.

    thegirlwiththepearl-bracelet asked:
    What shampoo/conditioner do you use?

For a normal shower I use Organix Ever-Straight Brazilian Keratin Therapy shampoo and Herbal Essences Tousle Me Softly conditioner. But if I haven’t washed my hair in a few days and it’s a little oily, I use the Herbal Essences Drama Clean shampoo. (I think that’s what it’s called.) The keratin stuff makes my hair softer and my conditioner gives me a nice and natural wave. :)
